Etymology
Eko is a word that transcends several languages, religions and traditions. The single word evokes positive meanings across all of them.
In Yoruba, Eko (Ẹkọ́) is the traditional name of Lagos, the largest city in Nigeria, and the place where the company’s founder lived when he established the organisation. It also means farmstead, a direct reference to nature, and an alignment to our sustainable practices.
In Japanese, Eko (エコ) is commonly used as an abbreviation for “Ecology” (エコロジー, Ekoroji), further speaking to our prioritisation and implementation of eco-friendly concepts.
Many other eurasian languages also adopt the abbreviation to denote environmentally friendly practices, for example, “ekologiczny” in Polish, “ekologinen” in Finnish and “ekologisk” in Swedish.
In Greek, Eko (ἥκω) means “I have come” or “I am present”, just as we are here to drive change.
In Indonesian, Eko is a common name given to the first child. We intend to be the first in many areas of innovation.
In Buddhism, Eko (回向) refers to the practice of dedicating merits or blessings to others. It means to transfer the positive karma, virtues, or merits gained from good deeds, prayers, or spiritual practices to benefit others. We remain committed to being a positive force on the world.
In Filipino, Eko is derived from “Echo”, referring to sound repetition. It is a testament to the fact that the impact of our works will be heard and felt across all corners of the world.
The ‘cet’ acronym embodies our core expertise across three vital sectors: Construction, Energy, and Technology.
This ubiquitous name highlights our vision to drive unified sustainable development across the world.
